The 143rd Annual Meeting and Scholarship Award Ceremony was held on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

The Salem High School Alumni Association awarded 112 scholarships totaling $415,700 to 77 Salem High School graduating seniors and 35 alumni. Since 1908, more than $9.6 million has been awarded to 2676 students.

The mission of the Salem High School Alumni Association of Ohio shall be to award scholarships to qualified students, manage assets including memorabilia for future generations, foster student and alumni development, and honor the organization’s past by nurturing friendships and enriching memories.

Dr. Joseph A. Shivers of Salem has been chosen as the 2024 Salem High School Alumni Association Honored Alumnus.

Dr. Shivers graduated from Salem High School in 1966 and in 1970. He received a bachelor’s degree from Baldwin-Wallace College. He continued his education and received his teaching certificate from Youngstown State University in 1973 and his master’s degree from The Ohio State University in 1982. From Harvard University, Shivers attained his Master of Education degree in June of 1985 and his Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in 1989.

The alumni association will honor Shivers during its 143rd SHSAA Annual Meeting and Scholarship Award Ceremony on Saturday, April 27, 2024, in the SHS auditorium.

Graduating seniors from the SHS Class of 2024 who have received scholarships from the association will be recognized as the organization will sponsor the event almost a month earlier than in the past.

The 50-year classmates from the SHS Class of 1974 will also be introduced and recognized.

As it has been for the last several years, the annual meeting and scholarship ceremony will be held in the SHS auditorium beginning at 6:30 p.m. with an SHSAA Open House in the cafeteria following the program.

The classmates of the Salem High School Class of 1973 celebrated the golden anniversary of their graduation last summer during the busy SHS Alumni Weekend.

Memorial Society recognition is bestowed on individuals or families who have given or bequeathed funds or for whom memorial donations have been made totaling at least $10,000 but less than $100,000.

Named Scholarships and higher-levels of recognition are bestowed for donations of $100,000 or more.
